FAQ

Stain and Odor Eliminator:

Q: How do I use the Product?

A: The biggest problem pet owners face today is effectively removing all the pet urine from carpeting.  Rocco & Roxie 3-in-1 formula uses both bacteria and enzymes. Enzymes only break up the urine...they do not consume the urine!

The theory behind a bacteria based product is very technical, but really quite simple. Bacteria are living microorganisms.  Like any living thing, they must have food in order to live. When applied to the carpeting, the bacteria will create enzymes to break down the urine into tiny pieces in order for the bacteria to digest the food. They will eat the urine to survive.  Once the food source is gone, the bacteria will die. No more urine, no more bacteria and no more odor!  NOTE: The bacteria must come in contact with the urine to be effective.

Our main objective is to physically remove as much of the urine as possible, before treating the area with any chemical products.

Here is a tip to use less Rocco & Roxie, first use water.  Water will dilute the concentrated urine and help carry the urine out of the carpeting.  Using water to dilute the urine allows you to use less enzyme product.

A very important tool in the urine removal process is a liquid suction device, such as a portable extraction machine or a wet/dry vacuum.  If you do not have a machine, you can manually remove most of the water by using highly absorbent cotton towels or paper towels.

To effectively remove any remaining urine residue, use Rocco & Roxie Stain and Odor Eliminator.

Fresh Urine

Step 1

Remove as much of the concentrated pet urine as possible by using paper towels or a highly absorbent cotton towel.

Step 2

Pour 4-6 ounces of fresh, warm WATER on the accident area. Extract or absorb this water from the carpeting. DO THIS STEP 2-3 MORE TIMES. Remember, we are trying to dilute and remove as much of the urine as possible. The more urine we are able to remove through dilution and extraction, the better chance our bacteria will have in digesting the remaining urine residue.

Step 3

Apply Rocco & Roxie bacteria product to the area. Make sure you use enough product to wet the entire area.

Step 4

Allow bacteria to sit for an hour or two, or longer.

Step 5

Extract or absorb as much of the bacteria product as possible and allow to air dry. Helpful Hint: Cover area with a dry towel and place a weight on top of the towel. The liquid will wick into the towel as it dries.

Step 6

Once dried, vacuum and inspect treated area. Odor should be gone. If not, repeat procedure.

NOTE: For older urine stains and odors, follow steps 3-6.  The above procedure is also effective for removing vomit!

Q: What Surfaces Does It Work On?

Tile

Many customers have had success using our product on tile and grout.  You can spray or pour it on and leave it.  Let it work its way down into the tile, as urine would, to get down and eliminate it.

Wood

Many customers have had success using our product on wood.  You can spray or pour it on and leave it.  Let it work its way down into the wood as urine would, to get down and eliminate it.  Be careful though.  It is water-based so you don't want to use too much on wood.

Couch

Many customers have had great success using our product to clean couch cushions.  If you can take the covers off of the cushions, let them soak in the washing machine for about 30 minutes with a cup of our product in the warm water and then wash as you normally would.  Spray the cushions while the covers are off to get to any urine that may have gotten into the cushions.  If you cannot take the covers off, just apply enough of our product to get down into the cushions where the urine may have gone.  If the product comes in contact with the urine, it will eliminate it.

Mattress

Many customers have had  success using our product on mattresses.  You can spray or pour it on and leave it. If the product does come in contact with the urine, it will eliminate it.

Leather

Although our product is water-based and you usually don't want to use water on leather, many of our customers have had great success using our stain and odor eliminator on their leather couches and chairs.  Spray enough to cover the trouble-spot and leave it for a couple of days. It probably won't take that long to dry.  If the odor is still there, that means the urine has gone deep into the leather and you'll need to reapply.  Be sure to apply enough to get deep enough to get to the urine.

Concrete

Our product will work on concrete but realize that there needs to be some kind of air exchange. In carpet, there is air exchange and it works fairly quickly. As you can imagine, concrete is somewhat porous but air exchange is minimal. So, apply the product soaking the area well and just leave it on. When it dries, check to see if the urine smell is gone. If not, apply again. Also, the product will work better at room temperature. If your spot is in a garage or outside, colder temps make it harder for it to work.

Q: Can I use the Stain and Odor Eliminator in the washing machine?

A: Yes, you can use our product in the laundry for clothes and bedding.  Use about a cup of our product and pre-soak for about 30 minutes in warm water, then wash as usual.

Q: What are the ingredients in the Stain and Odor Eliminator?

A: Water, Advanced Biological Blend, Non-ionic surfactant, Fragrance, Opacifier.

Q: What is the chemistry of the Stain and Odor Eliminator?

A: We do not have any “free” enzymes in our products. Our biological products contain a carefully selected stable consortium of safe (non-pathogenic) Bacillus spore microorganisms. Furthermore, our stabilized multi-spore blend formulation is specifically designed to improve liquefaction and digestion of fats, oils, grease, and other organic deposits through production of multiple enzymes including high levels of amylase, cellulase, lipase and protease. This provides a wide range of degradation capabilities and the ability to work under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Here are some particulars, bacteria count 1.0 x 10^9 cfu/gm and stability 2 years at 35° - 95°F (2° - 35°C). Since there are no “free” enzymes and the microorganisms are in a spore state they are exceptionally durable and can be stored in a wider range of conditions with increased shelf life.

Q: Can I use this product in carpet steam cleaner?

A: We do not recommend that you use our product in a steam cleaner.  The super high heat will kill the biological ingredients in our product thus rendering it ineffective.  It's best to pre-treat the problem areas first with our product, let it sit overnight if possible, then steam clean as normal a day or two later.  The key is for the product to come in contact with the urine and then be given enough time to work.  For old stains, spray the product on and leave it for a couple of days, if possible, to get down deep and consume the urine.

Q: Can I use this product in a carpet shampooer?

A: We recommend that you don’t use our product in the carpet shampooer.  It's better to pre-treat the problem areas, let it sit overnight if possible, then shampoo as normal.  The key is for the product to come in contact with the urine and then given time to work. Using it in the shampooer just puts it down and sucks it right back up.  That doesn't allow it to go deep enough into the carpet (and pad), nor allow it the time it needs to break down and digest the urine crystals.

However, that being said, many of our customers have used our product in a carpet cleaner machine and have had good success.  Put a couple of ounces of our product to every gallon or two of water in the machine.

Q: Why did stains appear after carpet was professionally cleaned?

A: Usually a few days after the professional carpet cleaners have come, where it once looked clean, you'll see the stains from deep in the carpet and pad start to wick up to the surface of the carpet and become visible.  I hope this doesn't happen for you.  I hope your stains and odors were just on the surface and are gone forever.  However, if they were not just on the surface, and they start to reappear, you'll know your stains and odors are deep and our product will help get rid of those.  Please let us know how it goes.

Q: Will a carpet treated with this pass a black light inspection?

A: There is a good explanation for the faint glow you see in your carpet.  As you've noticed, the bright glow of the urine is not there.  The biological ingredients in our product give off a false positive under the blacklight.  That means that the beneficial bacteria, when active, will glow under the blacklight.  As time goes by and the urine is consumed and the bacteria go dormant and they are vacuumed up, the glow will fade.

As for turning your house into a "bacterial heaven," people and pets are safe around the dormant bacteria even if you left them in your carpet.  But as you vacuum, they are picked up out of the carpet.  People and pets are also safe around the active bacteria so you don't need to worry about that either.

Q: If the product was frozen will it still work?

A: Bacteria products are in a protected form called spores. They are highly resistant to changes in temperature.  Once the frozen product is thawed the performance will still be effective.

We recommend that you allow the product to thaw in room temperature (may take a few days dependent on how frozen).  Shake product prior to use

Jerky Treats:

Q: Are they made in the USA?

A: Yes 100%

Q: What is the shelf life of the jerky sticks?

A: 1 Year

Q: Isn’t garlic bad for dogs?

A: We have done quite a bit of research on the issue of garlic in our treats. We have found sources that say garlic is not good for dogs. Others say garlic is not harmful, and in fact some veterinarians promote the health benefits of garlic for dogs. It is common thought that a tiny amount of garlic is not harmful or helpful.

The spice blend that goes into our jerky sticks is very small and the amount of garlic that goes into the spice blend is a very small part of it.  So for each beef, chicken, or turkey stick treat, there is a minuscule amount of garlic. This amount of garlic is so small that it could not be considered a health risk or health benefit, for that matter.

We have pets that have been eating our dog treats for years with no adverse effects. We also have customers who have told us of their pets who are very sensitive to certain foods and treats who have had no problems when given our Rocco & Roxie Jerky Sticks.

Here are some interesting links to information about garlic for dogs:

We also have a Liver Treat that is 100% liver that is very popular. We are also developing new treats that will be "organic."

Here is some more info about garlic for dogs.

"Garlic (Allium sativum) is considered to be less toxic and safe for dogs than onion when used in moderation. Allicin and ajoene, pharmacologically active agents in garlic, are potent cardiac and smooth muscle relaxants, vasodilators, and hypotensive agents (Malik and Siddiqui, 1981; Mayeux et al., 1988; Martin et al., 1992). Lee et al. (2000) studied whether dogs given garlic extract developed hemolytic anemia. Garlic extract was administered intragastrically (1.25 ml/kg of b.wt. (5 g of whole garlic/kg) once a day for 7 days). Compared with initial values, erythrocyte count, haematocrit and hemoglobin concentration decreased to a minimum value on days 9 to 11. Heinz body formation, an increase in erythrocyte-reduced glutathione concentration, and eccentrocytes were also detected, however, no dog developed hemolytic anemia. Eccentrocytosis appears to be a major diagnostic feature of garlic-induced hemolysis in dogs (Lee et al., 2000; Yamato et al.,2005)."

Rice Protein and Arsenic

Almost every plant food has naturally occurring metals in it. Plants absorb metals from the soil. Yams, turnips, apples, tomatoes, artichokes, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, lettuce, spinach, potatoes, corn, and many other fruits and vegetables contain arsenic. For instance, carrots contain 12.80 micrograms of arsenic in a one cup serving. Arsenic is even found in fairly high levels in drinking water. Arsenic isn’t the only boogey man out there. Green beans contain 28.75 micrograms of lead in a one cup serving. That’s 56 times the allowable limit! And yet we continue to live after a serving of green beans, because the body is prepared to remove these modest doses without problems. Rice naturally picks up arsenic from the water drenched patties where it is grown. There is no rice that does not contain some arsenic. There is no danger in the serving sizes we offer.

Salt

Sounds like food safety is very important to you for your pets, as it is for us.  We evaluate every ingredient in our products very closely and make sure it's something we're comfortable serving our own pets.  That's why we're so proud of our Jerky Treats, made locally in the USA.  The sodium nitrite is a naturally-occurring mineral that is used to prevent any possibility of botulism or food-borne illness in meat.  It's included in trace amounts for safety.  In fact, almost every jerky for humans has it in there, too.  Many other popular dog treats contain extra, unnecessary oils, fats, and fillers.  We pride ourselves on the very short list of ingredients in our treats -- the first and main one being American-raised beef.  What many people aren't totally aware of is that sodium nitrite is naturally found in so many of the foods we eat, including most vegetables because it's an element of soil.  Here's an informative article about it that you may find interesting, and it may make you less concerned about nitrites.

May we suggest our liver treats?  They are 100% beef liver that is thinly sliced and also slow-smoked.  No other ingredients.

Q: What is the pH of the the jerky sticks?

A: Since our Rocco & Roxie Jerky Treats are almost 100% beef, chicken, or turkey with a few spices added, I found this pH information on the FDA website.  Here's the link that gives the pH of many types of foods, including meat: http://www.fda.gov/Food/FoodborneIllnessContaminants/CausesOfIllnessBadBugBook/ucm122561.htm

By the way, our Rocco & Roxie Liver Treat is 100% liver, no spices added.

Q: Is it bad if my jerky sticks dry out?

A: If the sticks are drier than usual, they are still safe for your dogs.  In fact, I let the sticks dry out sometimes because it takes them longer to eat them.

OXY:

Q: What are the ingredients of the Oxy Stain Remover?

A: Water, Advanced Biological Blend, Non-ionic surfactant (mild soaps), Fragrance, Polystyrene.

Shampoo:

Q: Are the shampoos soap free?

A: Our shampoo formulas contain mild surfactants (soaps) which cleanse the dog's skin and fur so I would not recommend bathing the dog until 48hrs after application of the topical flea medication. As long as that time has passed, there will be no changes in efficacy of the flea medication since they absorb fairly quickly into the dog's system.

Q: Does this product contain cocamide DEA, cocamide MEA or cocamidopropyl betaine?

A: All 3 of our shampoo formulations contain Cocamidopropyl betaine. This is a commonly used coconut derived secondary thickening surfactant.

Q: Is this product tear free?

A: All shampoo should be avoided in the eye area however this shampoo has a more mild gentle surfactant system to help reduce eye irritation
